SBTi Unveils Draft Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has released a draft of its revised Corporate Net-Zero Standard, seeking public input until June 1st.
The proposed update aims to accelerate corporate decarbonization by:
- Providing more flexible approaches to tackling scope 3 emissions
- Introducing simplified requirements for medium-sized companies and SMEs in developing markets
- Exploring new ways to support carbon removals and climate finance
- Creating a more nuanced framework for tracking corporate climate progress
Key proposals include a commitment to low-carbon electricity by 2040 and new options for emissions reduction targeting.
Reinforcing the Paris Agreement's core temperature target, the proposal continues to prioritize limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Germany has approved a €500 billion infrastructure and defense fund, dedicating €100 billion specifically to climate and energy transition projects aimed at achieving climate neutrality by 2045.
The fund, secured with Green Party support, will focus on renewable energy expansion, energy efficiency upgrades, sustainable transport, grid improvements, and carbon storage initiatives.
By suspending its constitutional "debt brake" and creating a special budget, Germany is signaling a significant commitment to long-term sustainability and transformative climate action.
